CottAGE was a generic arcade emulator in Java, based on the famous MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) emulator which supports lots of arcade games.
We are now working on the PotatoArcade project, a new, fast and proprietary multiple arcade machine emulator.
You can already play free online games with your favorite heroes (Sonic, Mario, Pacman...) with the current PotatoArcade on Game Oldies!
No ROMs to download, no emulators to install, just play directly with your favorite browser. Enjoy retrogaming in Java!

We added five new arcade game drivers for the PotatoArcade emulator.
Snow Bros. - Nick & Tom seems perfect!
Snow Brothers 3 - Magical Adventure seems perfect!
Bionic Commando has an issue with credits.
Angel Kids has a strange cpu bug in the first attract mode and has sprite issues.

2006-01-09: Three new games including Commando!
Due to popular demand, I added a new arcade game driver for the PotatoArcade emulator for the infamous Commando.
I also added a driver for Tropical Angel and Mr. Jong (Japan).

As usual, you can see the new screenshots on the Status page.

2006-01-08: First 68000-based games...
We added two new arcade game drivers for the PotatoArcade emulator.
They are based on a 68k cpu.
Diverboy has a few clipping glitches (cpu bug?) and runs a bit slower than MAME.
1945k III is twice time slower than in MAME due to unoptimized rotation and graphic display.

You can see the new screenshots on the Status page.

2005-12-27: Damn it, slower...
We added four new arcade game drivers for the PotatoArcade emulator.
This time, well they run a bit slower than MAME.

You can see the new screenshots on the Status page.

2005-12-14: Two new games!
We added two new arcade game drivers for the PotatoArcade emulator.
Once again, they run nicely and faster than MAME.

You can see the new screenshots on the Status page.

2005-12-10: Back in the business!
We restarted from scratch the development of arcade drivers for the PotatoArcade emulator.
We are not using anymore the MAME source code, just basic information so we are slowly progressing on drivers.
We completely dropped the generic approach towards a specific arcade game development approach.
Our first working game driver is 4 En Raya.
It runs very nicely, with a 366% speed increase...
This Java version is now *faster* than MAME!
More to come...

You can see a first screenshot on the Status page.

2005-11-15: MAME License Violation...

We are currently dealing with an internal affair with the MAME Team regarding the license and use of MAME code in the CottAGE and PotatoArcade emulators.

As far as CottAGE is concerned:
It is forbidden by the MAME license to have on commercial or non-commercial sites, both MAME material and ROMs.
This basically means that all web sites that are currently using the CottAGE applets online with ROMs are violating the MAME license!.
If it is the case for you, please consider removing the CottAGE applets from your site.
You can continue to download and use freely CottAGE as long as it is not available online with ROMs or used for any commercial activities.

As far as PotatoArcade is concerned:
We are currently violating the MAME license since we use MAME code without releasing the full source code and the Game Oldies site is actually mixing ROMs and MAME material.
We are heavily working on this issue and we decided to stop and remove completely our work in PotatoArcade regarding the generic drivers using MAME code.
Next step is to rewrite from scratch a new PotatoArcade without any MAME code... This process will take some time so first we'll try to rewrite all current drivers one by one.
Thanks for your comprehension.

2005-10-31:
Erik released a new version of CottAGE (1.6) based on his JEmu2 work.
It represents all his work since the latest CottAGE 0.11 version.
You can download the binary and sources here..

2005-10-28: Download freely Ghouls'n Ghosts (World) ROM!
Hi guys!
I successfully dumped the full intro ROM of Ghouls'n Ghosts (World).
Only sound is missing but you can use it with any CPS1 emulator (even MAME) provided that incorrect checksums are ignored.
You can download this ROM for free here:

Ghouls'n Ghosts (World) - MagicLight Intro

OK, this ROM is partially copyrighted but since you cannot play it, this will not really harm Capcom.
You can consider it more like an attract video intro of Ghouls'n Ghosts (World).

There are several possible interests:
- Frontends usually make use of attract videos but these files are always huge. Here, it is only 419K!.
- If you want to try an emulator with a game you do not own, this is reasonably less illegal.
- Online arcade emulators could benefit of this to show interactive or non-interactive game intros.
